Selenium & tellurium

Shinko Chemical produces a wide variety of selenium and tellurium compounds to meet an ever-expanding range of customer needs.

Selenium and tellurium are mainly produced as a by-product of copper smelting. Both elements are semiconductors, and they are used in the manufacture of CIGS and CdTe compound semiconductor solar cells and as the main materials for X-ray detectors.

Selenium is also used throughout the glass industry to clarify colored glass and as a colorant for red and bronze-colored glass. As an essential biological trace element, in recent years selenium has also been widely incorporated into compounds that improve soil and livestock feed quality.

Tellurium and its compounds function as oxidation catalysts for organic synthesis. They also can be employed to make rubber compounds more pliable.
